This is an extra message from AdventureWeather and ExplorersWeb. 1. Empty oxygen bottles have been dumped down the wall, almost hitting the Russian Central North Face Expedition. The Russians have been working above 8000 meter (no oxygen) for a week now. We do not need to tell you how dangerous and hard their work has been. Adding "extra" danger is not necessary. Please spread the word among ALL climbers that empty oxygen bottles should be brought down, or in an emergency just left in the snow. 2. WEATHER is looking good. Have you ever seen a weather forecast on Everest with the word CALM at summit level?:) But, what is the scoop on precipitation? We talked to all mets today and also with Monsoon forecasters in India: A. The Monsoon is 5-6 days early this year and has already formed Friday/Saturday and started to move. B. There is a typical pre/early monsoon depression over northern Bay of Bengal. It's growing stronger mid-week AND moving East. Eastern Himalaya and Everest will not be hit by the high winds, but will see increased precipitation. C. The increased precipitation will occur mainly on lower altitudes! It will be better weather higher up and on levels above 7500 meter mostly dry weather is expected. D. When will the Monsoon hit Everest? Normally, the monsoon hits Everest around June 10, so even if it was 6 days early, late summits shouldn't be a problem. NOTE! Keep good track of the weather reports. We might see changes in precipitation from one day to the other. Good Luck and Safe Climb! Team ExWeb P.S. We have now supplied free weather for 8 seasons. This years the mets both in US and Sweden have put in a tremendous amount of work, way above their fees. It has always been good |
